The Paws of Heritage Dog Show, organized by King’s Dog Club in collaboration with the Nigeria Dog Breeders Union (NDBU), has officially made history as Nigeria’s first-ever cultural dog exhibition.
Held in Magboro, the event drew widespread recognition locally and internationally, bringing together dog enthusiasts to celebrate the fusion of tradition, community, and canine excellence.
Dogs took center stage dressed in vibrant traditional Nigerian attires, proudly representing Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and other cultural identities. Their handlers, equally stylish in matching native outfits, added to the spectacle, creating a striking celebration of culture and companionship.
The event featured several prestigious awards. The Best in Show title went to a Lhasa Apso, lauded for its obedience and precision. The Best in Breed award was claimed by a Snowline German Shepherd, while a Pug stole hearts as Best Culturally Dressed Dog, sporting a matching Yoruba agbada outfit. The Best Young Promising Dog Breeder Award went to a passionate young girl named Treasure, impressing judges with her enthusiasm.
Beyond the competition, the show buzzed with live music, cultural games, interactive activities, and fun photo sessions, making it a hit with families and dog lovers. The international canine community took notice too. Mrs. Claudia Galeotti of Italy’s ICDB Dog Show praised the event as “groundbreaking,” commending the celebration of cultural heritage.
Messages of appreciation poured in from kennel clubs in Algeria, Colombia, and the World Dog Federation, applauding NDBU for advancing canine culture in Nigeria. Organizers thanked King’s Dog Club, NDBU officials, participants, and supporters for making it a success. With Paws of Heritage setting a new standard, the Nigerian canine community looks forward to the NDBU National Dog Show 2026.
