The website I Heart Dogs just made a list of thirteen dogs with the best howls, and explained what makes each howl so special and different from the rest.
Dog owners like to claim that when it comes to anything, their dog is the ‘best’. But, the website I Heart Dogs just released a list of the dogs that have the most “adorable” and “unique” howls, and the list included 13 breeds.
You’ll never guess what dogs made the extremely prestigious list. The website points out that different many dog breeds are known for their vocal skills, and depending on the breed, you can expect a certain sound.
For example, some dogs can sound like a wolf with their howl, while others have a high-pitched piercing bark. In some cases, dogs can even sound like they are singing, or serenading.
“If you’ve ever heard a dog howl in a way that made you smile or chuckle, it was likely one of these incredibly unique and endearing breeds,” the website writes.
Siberian Husky
The list starts off with the Siberian Husky, saying that their howls are known to sound like an opera singer is performing.
The website adds that these dogs usually howl to communicate an emotion they are feeling, like expressing excitement. Their howls can sound like they’re having a conversation, with draw-out and emotional tones.
“Their howling is not just unique—it’s a full-blown performance that makes them stand out,” Arlene Divina writes.
Sometimes they just like to join in when they hear a loud pitched noise, like a siren.
Beagles
Next up on the list is beagles, which may be small dogs, but have big voices. Their howls are often heard during hunting, as the dogs are known as hunting dogs.
“This melodic howl is designed to alert hunters of their position, but it’s also a way for Beagles to express themselves at home,” Divina wrote.
The website added that a beagle’s howl is one of the most recognizable among canine roars, that is charming and loud, as it is meant as an alert for hunters.
Chiuahua
If you’ve ever heard of a Chihuahua bark, you’d expect those little canines to have made this list. They did.
As the website describes, Chihuahuas are small dogs with a big personality, and there is no exception when it comes to their voice. Their howls are extremely high pitched, and used when expressing excitement or trying to capture someone’s attention.
