WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling University athletic students collaborated with Wheeling Heritage to place dog banners at the Fitzsimmons Family Dog Park in Wheeling.

The banners featured pets of individuals who participated in Wheeling Heritage painting classes and created works of their furry pets.

They also help preview the third Wheeling Heritage Fido Fest set for May 17 at Warwood’s Garden Park. The festival helps dog lovers across the community with new art installations, adoption agencies, dog activities, food, and more.

“I just think it’s important to get out there,” Wheeling University Sports Information Director Zack Zeigler said. “It shows our community service. Our mission at Wheeling is learning service with and among others. So, just getting them immersed in that mission and having them help the Wheeling community as we try to become Wheeling’s university.”

“I think our community thrives off of working together for different things and there’s so many dog lovers in the area,” Wheeling Heritage Director of Programming Riley Carpenter said. “And just with having three dogs park, there’s times when you can’t find a place to park because there’s so many people here and we just love having people come out, share their love for their pets because that’s part of their family, too.”
