Tails of triumph: Okanagan author tells stories of rescue dogs

    Published 1:23 pm Friday, November 15, 2024

If you’ve ever been moved by heartwarming social media posts showing rescue dogs transforming from frightened, malnourished animals to happy, healthy family members, you might be curious about what that journey looks like from the pup’s perspective.

In her book, Rescue Tails, Paws It Forward foster parent Darcy Nybo gives readers a unique glimpse into the lives of ten rescue dogs, telling their stories from their point of view.

For many readers, Rescue Tails has been an eye-opening experience.

“I had not put much thought into the lives dogs may have experienced before they are rescued and fostered, and the unconditional love and courage it takes to socialize a rescue to be ready for adoption.”

Another reader was moved to tears after reading the heartfelt stories.

“I had no idea the conditions that these dogs lived in before they were rescued and adopted. Reading how foster families care for, nurture, and train the dogs and then release them to adoptive people is the tear-jerker and smiley face combined. Love the personality of the dogs too.”

The proceeds from Rescue Tails are helping local rescue organizations, with net sales going to support the care and rehoming of animals in need.

“The best part is that the four locations where the book is sold are donating a portion of their proceeds to Paws It Forward,” Nybo said. “If the book does well, we hope to raise money for other Okanagan rescue organizations as well.”

The funds raised will go toward essential costs such as veterinary bills, transportation, food, and other expenses that help rescue organizations continue their work.

Rescue Tails is available at Mosaic Books and Global Pet Foods in Kelowna, Pet Planet and Sunshine Pets in West Kelowna, as well as on Amazon.
