You’re about to meet one of the rarest dog breeds in the world, and this good girl is absolutely gorgeous. As much as we all love mutts and mixed breeds, it’s always so cool to see a purebred pup, especially when there are only about 300 of these dogs in the United States and around 6,000 worldwide.

Her name is Freya. See if you can guess what breed this beautiful girl is.

The sweet video was uploaded to the TikTok account for @Fabfreyastaby, and everyone is so in love with this special dog. Freya is a Stabyhoun, and according to Stabyhoun.UK, they are descended from the dogs introduced into the Netherlands during the Spanish occupation in the 16th and 17th centuries and evolved from there. They’re related to the Dutch Partridge Dog and the Small Munsterlander, plus, in a lesser degree, to the Dutch Kooikerhondje and German Longhaired Pointer.

One person commented, “Definitely all the time in the world for a very special woof woof! Oh my goodness, you’re so stunning.”

Another comment was, “Best looking dog. Her coat is just gorgeous.”

The Stabyhoun, or Stabijhoun or Stabij, is one of the rarest dog breeds in the world. It hails from the Dutch province of Friesland. Keep reading to learn all about these beautiful pups.

    All About Stabyhouns

The Stabyhoun is one of the rarest dog breeds in the world. Widely considered amongst the world’s top ten rarest dog breeds, the Stabyhoun has a population numbering just 6,000 globally.

Stabyhouns.org has a fascinating tidbit about what these dogs were originally bred for, and explains, ” Originally bred to be an all-round hunting dog as well as to keep the yard free of mice and rats. The Stabyhoun will guard the yard and has a good reputation as a mole and polecat catcher. The previously common larger type Stabyhoun pulled the milk carts, while the smaller type made its name as a professional mole catcher. This talent made the Staby popular with the poorer farmers and farmhands. “

Wikipedia goes on to say, “The Stabyhoun is known for its gentle disposition. This breed is friendly, sensitive, intelligent, calm, patient, and biddable but may be stubborn on occasion. The Stabyhoun is extremely tolerant of children and other animals. With steady yet gentle training, this breed will be obedient and devoted to its guardian. Stabyhouns should never be vicious or snappy.”

If you are interested in becoming a pet parent to one of these gorgeous dogs, please research rescues and ethical breeders in your area.
