Move over, French Bulldogs, there’s a new dog stealing the spotlight, and he’s got ears for days. A rare Podenco, often called “The Great Forgotten,” is winning over the internet with his enormous, upright ears and graceful, deer-like frame. This pup is just amazingly beautiful and so unique looking!

Native to Spain, Podencos are an ancient breed believed to have descended from Egyptian hunting dogs. Despite their long history and stunning looks, they’ve often been overlooked compared to more popular breeds, which makes this newfound internet fame even sweeter. Just look at this cutie-pie and keep reading to learn more about this rare breed.

The cute clip, shared by @earsofalfie, has people in love with this pup in the comments. One person wrote, “One of my fosters was a Podenco cross, here in Spain. His ears were spectacular, just like this guy’s! Give him a scritch from me, please? He’s immense.” Another added, “Reindeer auditions starting soon.” Someone else joked, “Tremendous ears—first prize!”

“Excuse me, but your dog has antlers,” one viewer responded, while another said, “You could put some small solar panels in there and power a lamp. Those ears are amazing.”

    Do Podencos Make Good Pets?

Podencos are intelligent, athletic, and deeply loyal dogs who form strong bonds with their families. They were originally bred for hunting and still have strong prey drives and endless energy, so they need space to run and play or at least regular exercise and mental stimulation.

While they can be independent (translation: stubborn), Podencos are also affectionate and sensitive, thriving in calm, loving homes. They’re not always suited for first-time dog parents, but with patience, structure, and plenty of love, they make wonderfully loyal companions.

Plus, let’s be honest, with ears like that, they’ll hear the treat jar open from three rooms away.
