    S. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – Dog owners seeking top-notch care for their canine companions will soon have a new facility to frequent in the Lehigh Valley.

A new location of Scenthound, a chain of dog grooming and wellness centers, is tentatively set to open Sept. 6 at 3034 Tilghman St. Unit 13 in South Whitehall Township, franchise owner Sean Stitt said.

The new facility will operate between My Salon Suite and LA Nails in the Village West shopping center.

Scenthound has more than 250 locations open or in development nationwide, with the South Whitehall facility set to be the chain’s first Lehigh Valley location.

“At Scenthound, we provide a quick and affordable core package of services, including bathing, ear cleaning, nail trimming, and teeth brushing — the essentials for a clean and healthy dog,” a message on the business’ website reads.

“Add additional services as needed — like blow-drying, haircuts, or other treatments — and make it a monthly routine for your dog’s wellness.”

Scenthound customers choose from three Monthly Care Club membership options, with service offerings packaged “so you only pay for what you need, when you need it.”

Building and maintaining a monthly routine helps “keep pups clean and healthy,” Stitt said.

“Our standard membership includes a bath, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and a nail clipping that we try and make affordable ($39/mo) so that all dogs can get the care they need,” Stitt stated.

Scenthound also offers dog haircuts, but it only does puppy cuts – or one-length cuts – as services are related to promoting healthy dogs.

“Nothing purely aesthetic,” such as breed-specific cuts or color dyeing, is provided, Stitt said.

Through its Clean Start initiative, Scenthound partners with local animal rescue organizations to help local rescue dogs get the basic care needed to stay clean and healthy.

Clean Start’s two-tiered approach begins with providing free monthly services for adoptable dogs to get them freshened up and ready for adoption.

“We believe that a good grooming will, not only make the dogs more comfortable and healthier, but also increase their chances of finding their forever home,” an online message states.

Second, Clean Start provides local shelters and rescue organizations with free grooming services for newly adopted dogs.

Each dog goes to their new home with a voucher for a free bath, ear cleaning, nail trim and teeth brushing along with materials educating dog parents on the importance of routine care.

Scenthound Allentown has partnered with Peaceable Kingdom in Whitehall Township, and Stitt also is looking to form a partnership with Lehigh Valley Humane Society in Allentown.

Stitt, a Lehigh Valley native who graduated from Emmaus High School in 2007, worked in banking/finance in Manhattan for 14 years.

Over the years, he held various roles, including operations and risk management for prominent pet supply companies, before deciding that he wanted to enter the dog care industry himself.

He moved back to Pennsylvania last summer and started working at the Scenthound locations in Spring House and King of Prussia, Montgomery County to prepare for opening his own store.
