The Kazakh Dog Breeds Day is expected to promote the national cultural heritage, history and traditions of Kazakh people. Events to be held on this day are called to attract tourists interested in Kazakhstan’s ethnography and culture.

Besides, the development of cynology and related sectors will reveal new opportunities for creating jobs and increasing tax revenues to contribute to economic growth and social stability.

Various lectures, workshops, exhibitions and events dedicated to the Tazy and Tobet breeds’ history and care peculiarities will be held on this day. It is called to create more opportunities for breeders and canine organizations to share experiences, and to participate in exhibitions and competitions.

Tazy is a breed of sighthound hunting dog originating from Kazakhstan. According to official data, there are about 3,000-3,500 Tazy dogs in our country today.

The law on preservation and reproduction of the Kazakh Tazy and Tobet dog breeds was signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on January 3, 2023 and entered into force on July 1 of the same year.

Noteworthy, the General Committee of the International Canine Federation (FCI) has decided to grant preliminary recognition to the Kazakh Tazy as an official dog breed and confirmed Kazakhstan’s status as the breed standard holder last September.

In August 2023, the Union of Canine Experts of Kazakhstan, having fulfilled all the requirements of the FCI, became a full member of the federation and gained the right to submit its national dog breeds for recognition.

To note, in November 2024 Kazakh and French Presidents took a walk in the gardens of Élysée Palace in the company of Kazakh Tazy dogs called Jules and Jeanne, presented to Emmanuel Macron by Tokayev during his last year’s visit to Astana.
