Rescue dogs are the best, often being cute crossbreed mutts with personality-plus despite having enigmatic backgrounds and experiencing hardship. Take this rescue pup named Mango, for example, who has people on TikTok stumped as to what hybrid breed she may be. With a fluffy bi-colored coat and little legs, she’s a breathtaking sight — but what exactly is she?

Set to a 1960s rockabilly song from the “Dirty Dancing” soundtrack, the TikTok clip shows off Mango’s unique appearance as she circles around the front steps happily wagging her tail. In the caption, it’s explained that the 6-year-old pup was rescued when she was three and that some of her favorite things include cheese and naps, but that she hates loud trucks. Oh, and it’s pointed out that she has small little legs, in case you didn’t notice!

Within the comments, at least one person referenced the “creamsicle” color of her coat, while many were highly engaged in guessing the breed mix, with most assuming she’s a corgi mix because of her short legs. A corgi mixed with a golden retriever was a top guess, with corgi and Australian shepherd coming in close behind. One person, however, bluntly noted, “Mix a corgi with anything and it’s still a corgi for real.” All we know is this little doggy is 100% cute!

Reasons to adopt a mixed breed dog

In general, mixed-breed dogs are not considered to be purebred, which is defined by having pedigree papers from an organization like the American Kennel Club (AKC). However, a majority of dogs in the U.S. and the world are naturally mixed breed, and an extremely high percentage of dogs up for adoption in animal shelters and through rescue organizations are mixed breed, meaning there is an abundance of them in need of a loving home.

This abundance means that adopting a mixed-breed dog from a reputable shelter or organization will be far more affordable than buying a purebred dog from a for-profit breeder, with average adoption fees ranging from $150 to $350, which is generally considered a reimbursement for the cost of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping. Meanwhile, purebred prices from an ethical breeder often start at $1,000 and go up from there, depending on breed popularity.

Beyond that, mixed-breed dogs up for adoption often have unique looks and personalities, which can be endearing and eye-catching, and often have a reduced risk of certain health problems that can plague certain purebred breeds, such as brachycephalic syndrome that affects short-nosed dogs like pugs and bulldogs. Above all, adopting a mixed-breed dog from a shelter or rescue organization will 100% save that dog’s life and have a positive impact on the community!
