As temperatures drop, BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions is stepping up to help pet owners ensure their furry friends are safe and warm.

In partnership with Houston PetSet, BARC is hosting a one-day event offering free dog houses and straw to City of Houston residents to help protect pets from the elements.

The event took place today, Jan. 6, at 3 p.m., at the BARC Wellness Center entrance located at 3200 Carr St.

Free dog houses and straw were available for Houston residents. Each vehicle was limited to one doghouse, and pets did not need to be present at pickup.

The initiative aligns with city ordinances requiring pet owners to provide adequate shelter for animals, especially during extreme weather conditions.
