by croatiaweek January 13, 2026 in News The Croatian Sheepdog (hrvatski ovčar) has officially been declared intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia, marking a major milestone in the protection of one of the country’s most distinctive and historic native dog breeds. This recognition confirms the breed’s exceptional cultural, historical and traditional value, deeply rooted in the rural life of Slavonia, where the small, black, curly-coated dog has been an indispensable companion on farms for centuries. The Croatian Sheepdog was first mentioned in historical records from the Đakovo region as early as the 14th century, highlighting its long-standing presence…
The cat who changed everything arrived during the second year of lockdown, when touch had become dangerous and algorithms determined who we could love. Tom found her—a tortoiseshell with one white paw—behind a dumpster in Queens, brought her home to the apartment he shared with Sarah, and named her Mochi. Within a week, she’d chosen Sarah completely, definitively, with the kind of certainty that dating apps promise but never deliver. Now Tom kneels on their kitchen floor at 6 AM, holding salmon treats in one hand and speaking in the high-pitched voice we reserve for creatures we desperately want to…

A vet student shared her heartbreaking story after playing fetch with her Corgi. While this is a game many dog owners partake in with their pets, it’s important you do so using legitimate toys and not sticks. That’s because the twigs could end up hurting – or even killing – your furry friends. Sharing her own experience, Ally revealed how she got her pet corgi called Lucy in 2020. She described Lucy as her “soul dog” and spent plenty of time on training and obedience competitions. However, the bond between Ally and her beloved dog was cruelly cut short. That’s…

Pet owners have been urged to learn the signs of hypothermia this winter. While it’s well-known that cold temperatures can negatively impact human health, some animal lovers might not realise that pets are also at risk of hypothermia. While it’s thankfully not common in dogs in the UK, being aware of the signs to watch out for could make all the difference in a medical emergency. Pet Health Club, which offers pet care plans for animals such as dogs and cats, shared advice for pet owners on TikTok. In a video shared under the handle @Thepethealthclub, a vet shared advice…
Former Sony Interactive Entertainment executive Shuhei Yoshida has commented on Naughty Dog’s canceled The Last of Us Online, saying that he played it and thought it was “great.”Naughty Dog stopped development on The Last of Us Online in December 2023, saying it would have needed to put all its resources into post-launch content for years to come — an approach that would have severely impacted its ability to develop future single-player games.“We realize many of you have been anticipating news around the project that we’ve been calling The Last of Us Online,” Naughty Dog said at the time. “There’s no…
While it may sound like the summary of a movie, it is the true story of an extraordinary dog.His name was Aladdin.Aladdin was found on the side of the road in 2013 starving, with broken legs, a broken tail, 12 missing teeth, and open wounds. The animal shelter that took Aladdin in reached out to a local volunteer, Michele Shaffer, who had taken on emaciated foster dogs in the past. She agreed to take Aladdin but didn’t hold much hope for his survival. Aladdin’s spirit thought differently and with the love of Michele and her family, he came back from…
When Jennifer Lawrence recently shared that she rehomed her dogs after a frightening incident involving her child, the reaction was swift, and emotional. Online, the conversation quickly turned into judgment, takes, and hot opinions. But strip away the celebrity lens, and what remains is a reality many families quietly face: the moment children enter a home, safety rules change. When a Home Stops Being Just YoursBefore kids, homes are built around adult routines. Furniture placement makes sense. Open spaces feel freeing. Pets move freely because the household rhythm is predictable. Dogs learn patterns. Adults read signals. Boundaries feel intuitive.I know this…
