Mom Is Furious That Dog Owner ‘Walked Off Grinning’ After Their Dog ‘Invaded’ Her Family’s ‘Personal Space’

A Mumsnet user shared that a stranger’s dog tainted her recent park day with her kids — and the owner didn’t apologize

“If they’d said sorry it would have been alright … but the way they actively led it over to us and allowed it to do that, then laughed about it, am I being unreasonable for being annoyed?” she asked fellow forum users

Her question resulted in a dialogue about untrained dogs

A dog has barked up the wrong tree!

An “annoyed” mother chronicled on the community forum Mumsnet that her recent park day with her kids was ruined when a stranger’s dog invaded her family’s “personal space” in a quite off-putting way.

“I’m a bit p—– off and need a rant,” she wrote. “We had a large bottle of water, nearly full, next to us on the grass. The top was off as one of the kids had just had some. These two women walked past with a dog on a lead.”

“They came literally right up to us. The dog came between me and the kids and licked the rim of our water bottle,” she continued. “One of the women did a tinkly laugh, and I said, ‘Oh no,’ in an annoyed tone, and I told one of my kids that the water would have to go in the bin now.”

The mom recalled that the women “walked off grinning” and uttering “something like ‘imagine being like that over a dog.’ ”

Without saying anything back, the mom threw away the bottle. The mom also noted that she likes dogs and has two of her own.

“If they’d said sorry it would have been alright … but the way they actively led it over to us and allowed it to do that, then laughed about it, am I being unreasonable for being annoyed?” she asked the forum. “It’s about having personal space invaded needlessly when I’m minding my own business by people who are nosy and need to see what I’m doing.”

The majority of Mumsnet users sided with the mother.

“People are perfectly right to complain about irresponsible owners being unable to control their poorly trained dogs,” one person commented.

Another reader took issue with owners thinking pets are “family,” writing, “Dog owners have no boundaries. They don’t have the wit to understand that to the rest of us, it’s an animal who will slobber, bark and bite.”
