Dog Experiences Every Emotion While at the Drive-Thru: ‘The Drama’

There is no doubt that dogs get excited whenever they get a treat, but one owner has astounded internet users after showing the complete range of emotions her Pomeranian experiences every time they go to the drive-thru.

The hilarious video was posted on TikTok by Melyssa Sobczyk (@lola_thepom), showing the chaos of going to an In-N-Out Burger drive-thru with Lola, her 12-year-old dog. In just a few short moments, the Pomeranian went from excited, to impatient, to angry, to utterly ecstatic as she devoured her puppy patty.

Sobczyk, from Palm Desert, California, loves taking Lola to the drive-thru every now and then as a treat. But the novelty certainly never gets old for the pup; Sobczyk told Newsweek that her pet’s reactions have become “more intense” as she has gotten older, and there is no hiding her emotions when there’s a puppy patty on the line.

The video has delighted many social-media users since it was shared in May, gaining more than 411,000 views and over 42,000 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Lola the Pomeranian waits impatiently for her puppy patty at the In-N-Out Burger drive-thru. The dog gets terribly excited every time she’s at the place, and still doesn’t understand how to wait patiently.

“Lola always has a strong range of emotions in the In-N-Out drive-thru because she knows she will get a puppy patty,” Sobczyk said. “She starts off excited, then she will cry, pout, will lose her cool completely and bark, drool, and even shake. She really runs the whole gamut.

“We usually go once a week or so on a Friday after work. She’s my emotional support animal and goes to work with me every day, so it’s her reward for putting up with me all week,” Sobczyk added.

Regardless of how often Lola gets a puppy patty, she still doesn’t seem to have grasped the concept of waiting in line patiently and loves to bring “the drama” to the drive-thru.

What Is an Emotional Support Animal?

Emotional support animals (ESAs) are different from service animals, but they are still recognized by federal law. The U.S. Service Animals website says an ESA is prescribed by a licensed mental-health worker to treat issues such as depression, anxiety, phobias, or other psychological conditions.

Their presence is comforting and enhances dopamine levels, helping to stabilize a person’s emotions. Cats and dogs make great ESAs, but other examples include rabbits, parrots, goats, sheep, chickens, and fish.

While service animals are allowed in any public spaces, an ESA doesn’t have the same level of access. Many policies treat them as pets rather than as service animals, meaning they cannot fly in the cabin of a plane, and Airbnbs in certain states are allowed to charge a pet fee, or refuse to let them stay in the property.

    How Did TikTok React?

Sobczyk loves sharing videos of Lola on social media to give followers a glimpse into their lives together. She wasn’t expecting the video of her pup’s excitement to generate so much attention online, but TikTok users can’t get enough of her “emotional roller coaster” when she’s hungry.

“People find it hilarious. The most-common response was that Lola’s just going through the emotions that we wish were socially acceptable for us to show while we’re stuck in those lines,” Sobczyk told Newsweek.

In just a matter of days, the video has received an overwhelmingly positive response on TikTok, leading to more than 1,200 comments already. One comment reads: “She’s a dramaranian.”

Another person responded: “There needs to be a special Lola line!”

A third TikTok user joked: “Emotional Lola coaster.”
