Upon arrival at San Diego Mission Bay Resort, your four-legged travel companion’s name will get scrawled on a board in the lobby for all guests and hotel staff to know—think of it like a puppy marquee. At this laid-back spot, your dog can partake in a “Yappy Hour” before heading over to one of the many dog beaches nearby to catch the sunset. The hotel is also host to many pet-friendly events like the “Pupapalooza,” and regularly partners with local nonprofits like the San Diego Humane Society and The Animal Pad.

With a name like Paws Up, it’s no surprise this luxury escape in Montana—steeped in Lewis & Clark history—welcomes four-legged guests to come and, well, put their paws up. At the 37,000-acre ranch, guests are assigned personal glamping butlers, but their pets are not overlooked either. The front desk takes care of dogs while their owners are on activities, and if you’d like to craft a more luxurious experience for your dog, there are plenty of options. Firstly, the dog forest bathing experience, during which Paws Up will take guests’ dogs out for a soothing hike. Secondly, your pup can join you at Spa Town’s sound bowl therapy; healing vibrations from pure crystal bowls are said to bring about inner serenity. Lastly, there is the 15-minute “Wag the Tail” massage offering, which comes complimentary with any 60-minute (human) spa service.

Doggie “Tunes” at the Hôtel Swexan

    Dallas, Texas

At this family-owned boutique hotel in Uptown Dallas, Southern hospitality is not limited to human guests. Pet owners will find they’re set with all the accommodations their pups might need—a plush dog bed, treats, and dog room service, and then some. At Hôtel Swexan (which is a fusion of Swiss and Texan, per the owners’ roots), there is a 24/7 dog walking service available and a “doggy playlist,” played via a veterinarian-approved Chewy Pet Acoustics speaker, which, per Chewy, provides calming, frequency-modified music that is clinically proven to reduce stress and calm your pups.
