The free event, running from 11am to 5.30pm, will showcase the organisation’s work to protect England’s historic environment, with demonstrations of specialist tools and technologies.

Visitors will be able to see aerial archaeology, 3D laser scanning, and a live demonstration of the ‘Spot’ robot dog, which surveys hazardous heritage sites.

Lucy Howson from Historic England’s Yorkshire Partnerships team said: “This free open day event shows how Historic England combines traditional expertise with cutting-edge technology to protect and celebrate our shared heritage.

“We are especially keen to welcome grassroots heritage organisations in and around York to the open day, in addition to sharing with the general public more about our work.”

Talks exploring the history of the Victorian railway hotel that now houses Historic England’s York office will take place at 12pm, 2.30pm, and 5.30pm and must be booked in advance.

People will be able to drop in for the event, but talk places must be reserved through Eventbrite.
