One of Fanshawe College’s most popular student amenities is offering new virtual wellness programs this fall, aiming to support students who can’t always make it to the gym and want to stay in good shape while navigating their first year at college. The Student Wellness Centre, a staple on campus for fitness and health support, has introduced online initiatives to help students stay active while navigating their first year of college life.
Tabitha Liston, representative with the wellness center, says, “We have a virtual platform and we’re starting a 21-day habit challenge, and a balance challenge coming up, there are lots of wellness aspects, not just fitness activities.”
As well as these new additions, the old ones are still being used by students.
“Included in a student’s membership are fitness consultations, in-body assessments, and group fitness classes. There’s also access to the rock wall, golf simulator, and squash courts — including lessons and equipment. While some services, such as personal training, come with an extra fee,” Liston said, the center is designed to make staying healthy as accessible as possible.
Student use has been steady since the start of the semester, with traffic expected to rise as the school year progresses.
“In the winter term, we average about 500 people per day,” said Liston.
